President Droupadi Murmu visited the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj today, where she took a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam, marking her participation in the ongoing spiritual festival. The President, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reached the site earlier in the morning. After being escorted on a floating jetty, she descended a ramp to immerse herself in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
Her visit comes just over a week after a tragic incident during the Mouni Amavasya, when a stampede claimed the lives of around 30 devotees. Despite this, the Maha Kumbh continues to attract millions of pilgrims, with over 44 crore devotees having already bathed in the Sangam since the beginning of the event.
After taking the dip, President Murmu offered prayers at the Bade Hanuman Temple and the Akshayavat tree, which holds deep spiritual significance in Hinduism, symbolizing immortality.
The Kumbh Mela is not only a significant religious event but also a hub of technological innovation. During her visit, President Murmu toured the Digital Maha Kumbh Experience Centre, where advanced technology allows devotees to experience the Mela virtually, enhancing their spiritual journey.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other prominent leaders have also visited the Maha Kumbh and participated in the ritual by taking a dip in the Sangam.
The President’s visit has been met with heavy security measures in Prayagraj. Authorities have reported severe traffic jams across the city, with vehicles pouring in from neighboring states. Traffic restrictions have been enforced, including a single-direction system at Prayagraj Junction. The Prayagraj Sangam railway station was temporarily shut down to manage the flow of pilgrims.
Despite the disruptions, the spiritual atmosphere remains undeterred as millions continue to gather at the Maha Kumbh, seeking blessings and participating in one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
