Protesting wrestlers meet Amit Shah late on Sunday night

India’s top wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshee Malikkh, Sangita Phogat, and Satyawart Kadian, who have been protesting against BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah late-night on Sunday.

Reports said, the meeting began at around 11 pm and lasted about 2 hours at Shah’s Delhi residence.

Reports claimed, wrestlers demanded an impartial investigation and a quick action against WFI chief Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment of female athletes, including a minor.

Shah reportedly told the wrestlers that the law remains the same for everyone and they should let the law operate on its own course.

The wrestlers have given an ultimatum to the Centre for taking action against Singh until June 9. Meeting with Shah is being seen as an impact of the wrestlers medal immersion act at the bank of Ganga in Haridwar.

The wrestlers, who allege that their protest against the wrestling federation chief has been largely ignored, had last month announced their decision to immerse their medals into the Ganga river in Haridwar.

They, however, temporarily withdrew their plan after the intervention of farmer leader and Bharat Kisan Union chief Naresh Tikait.

The protesting wrestlers were previously charged with rioting by the Delhi Police for breaking the law in a fit of rage while marching towards the new parliament, on the day of its inauguration, some protesters were also detained .

The Delhi Police, who shut the Jantar Mantar protest site to the wrestlers after the crackdown, said they would also not be allowed to hold a protest at India Gate.

The Delhi police has filed two FIRs against Singh. Of the two FIRs, one is based on the combined complaints of six adult wrestlers and a another is based on the complaint of the father of a minor wrestler.
