Ever since the movie The Kashmir Fies has hit the theatres, it has taken the internet by storm. After Gujarat and Haryana, Madhya Pradesh becomes the third state to declare the movie tax-free. It’s been three days since the movie has released and is breaking the record of all-time hits.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday tweeted that the movie The Kashmir Files is a heart-wrenching narration of the pain, suffering, struggle, and trauma faced by Kashmiri Hindus in the 90s. This needs to be watched by maximum people, hence we have decided to make it tax-free in the state of Madhya Pradesh, he stated.

The movie’s ticket prices would be reduced as a result of the tax-free status, as the states have waived the entertainment GST. The current GST rate for entertainment is 18 percent and ticket costs will be reduced by 9 percent after deducting the state GST.

Earlier, Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat tweeted that the state government has decided to give tax exemption to the recently aired film The Kashmir Files in the state.

On Sunday, Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar also tweeted about making the movie tax-free in the state. He tweeted that the Haryana government has made the film Kashmir Files tax-free, so that our present generation also watches and understands this vibrant film.

The Kashmir Files is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 wherein they were forced to leave the valley, persecuted, and murdered. It stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Amaan Iqbal, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, Chinmay Mandlekar, and Bhasha Sumbli in the lead roles.

In another entertainment news, Kangana Ranaut took a dig at Bollywood celebrities for not speaking a word about the film despite receiving mind-blowing reviews from both critics and audiences.

An FIR has been filed against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and three others following a complaint that a scene in the film ‘Jaat’ has “hurt the sentiments” of the Christian community, police reported on Friday (April 18, 2025).

According to the complaint submitted by a leader of the Christian community, the film, which premiered on April 10, features scenes that allegedly disrespect Jesus Christ and Christian religious practices.

Viklav Gold, the complainant, has also pointed out the controversial timing of the film’s release, coinciding with Good Friday, observed on April 18 of this year.

The FIR, lodged on Wednesday evening at the Jalandhar Cantt police station by Sanjeev Kumar, the station house officer, names actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar, as well as director Gopichand and producer Naveen.

“The FIR was filed under Section 299 of the IPC, which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings by insulting a religion or its beliefs,” the SHO stated.
