[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Senkumar was removed from post of DGP by the Kerala government last year and SC had ordered it to reinstate him as the State Police Chief in April 24

The Supreme Court on Friday court issued a contempt notice to Kerala Chief Secretary and imposed a fine of Rs 25000 on Kerala government for not complying wih its order to reinstate ousted IPS officer TP Senkumar as the State Police chief as per its April 24 order.

The LDF-led state government has to answer on Monday why it should not be held for contempt of court. The apex court had directed the Kerala Government on April 24 to reinstate Senkumar, who was removed from the post of DGP last year.

The state government moved the SC on Wednesday and asked for further clarifications in the court order and claimed that the IPS officer cannot be reinstated as “Director General of Police and State Police chief”.

The CPIM-led LDF government had argued that Senkumar was neither in the list of panelists and not selected as theState Police Chief and added that he was only holding the post of “DGP and Head of Police Force” when he was removed.

A first in the history of SC orders, the top court nullified the LDF government’s order of June 1, 2016 by which Senkumar was removed as DGP and made chairman and managing director of Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation Ltd.

The top court had held that there was no justification in law for the removal by referring to the Kerala Police Act 2011 which assures minimum tenure of two years as DGP. He was appointed as DGP in May 2015 by the previous UDF government.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) released an order that there was to enable young persons who become eligible to register themselves as voters. Besides, it also allowed a person who changed his ordinary place of residence to enroll at the new location by getting himself deleted at the old location.

It said that the number of electors as published in the special summary revision of J&K in 2011 was 66,00,921 and it has now increased to 76,02,397. This was mainly due to the new voters, who attained the age of 18 years.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Hirdesh Kumar told reporters that more than 20 lakh new voters would be enrolled in the region ahead of polls. This will increase the voter count by more than a third, adding to the existing 76 lakh voters in the region.

The senior leaders of Jammu and Kashmir criticized the election commission’s decision of giving voting rights to non-locals in the state and called an all-party meeting on this issue.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said that it will be the last nail in the coffin of Indian democracy. It was a dangerous attempt to influence elections in the state.
