Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of ignoring the then prime minister Indira Gandhi in the country’s 50th anniversary celebrations of the victory in the 1971 Bangladesh war.
Referring to his grandmother and the former PM, Gandhi said in Dehradun on Thursday that a function was held in New Delhi on the Bangladesh war but there was no mention of Indira Gandhi who took 32 bullets for this country at the event. Even her name was not there in the invitation because this government is afraid of the truth, he said.
On the 1971 war, Rahul Gandhi said America spent 20 years to win Afghanistan but India defeated Pakistan in a flat 13 days in 1971.
The credit for the 1971 victory does not go exclusively to the Army, Navy or the political leadership of that time, it goes to the united fight put up by Indians regardless of their caste or religion, he said.
Ahead of 2022’s Assembly Elections due in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur and Punjab, soldiers and former security personnel are becoming the prime focus for both the BJP and the Congress. Also, the participation of family members of serving or ex-soldiers could play a crucial role in the Uttarakhand’s election arena. The recently deceased General Bipin Rawat hails from the state.
Uggh, Arvind Kejriwal’s Channi attack lands in the bathroom
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took an ungentlemanly dig at Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s claim of meeting people everywhere in his house 24X7. Kejriwal mocked Channi that the Punjab CM meets people even in his bathroom.
While electionspeak can vary, given the Dalit origins of the incumbent Punjab Chief Minister and the mockery of his claims by Kejriwal, a baniya by caste, would certainly not be considered politically correct.
In Punjab’s Muktsar, Kejriwal said he saw an interview of Channi where he said he meets people 24 hours. Kejriwal wondered if Channi even met people in the drawing-room, hall, bathroom.
Toilet humour doesn’t belong in politics, though it might entertain a few, it can alienate Dalits and other backwards. The Aam Aadmi Party, which is flush with certainty that it would win Punjab given the eclipsing of the Shiromani Akali Dal in the farmer agitation, should keep its cards close to its chest and its dirty laundry in other locations.
