Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday staged a protest against the ruling party in front of Gandhi statue inside the Parliament buildings and charged that the government was withholding information about the recent India-China clashes in Tawang.
She also questioned the government’s motives for avoiding a serious discussion on the issue in border regions during the Congress parliamentary party.
Stating her worries on Chinese transgression, Gandhi said that the government was determined not to talk about the matter. The truth is hidden from the public and from the House. Why does the government not respond to Chinese transgressions financially?”
Opposition leaders step in the protest
Opposition parties joined Congress during the protests and sought a discussion about the most recent clashes between Indian soldiers and their Chinese counterparts.
Notably, the Opposition has been calling for a debate on the India-China conflict in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh since the media began reporting on it. One of the notices the opposition posted in Parliament was about the LAC conflict. The government, however, disregarded the demands, claiming that Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, had previously spoken to both houses last week.

Sonia Gandhi chairs a Congress parliamentary meeting
Sonia presided over a meeting of all party MPs in Parliament earlier in the day to plan the course of action for the remaining days of the Winter Session.
Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and all party MPs were present at the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, which was held in Parliament’s Central Hall. The meeting’s chairperson was Sonia Gandhi.
In the discussion, it was decided to launch a demonstration close to the Gandhi statue on Parliament grounds. It is anticipated that other party leaders would endorse and participate in the protest.
Since the Winter Session began on December 7, opposition parties have demanded a discussion of the border tensions between India and China and the most recent Chinese violations.
