The United Nations on Tuesday joined the global outrage particularly from Arab Nations over BJP leaders remarks on Prophet Muhammad. However, after facing a massive social media outrage and backlash from Gulf countries, the BJP on Sunday have suspended spokesperson Nupur Sharma and the it’s Delhi media in-charge.
Responding to a question by a Pakistani journalist on the condemnation by several Muslim nations over the two BJP leader’s remarks on Prophet Muhammad, Antonio Guterres, a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General said that the United Nations strongly encourage respect and tolerance for all religions.
Speaking at the daily press briefing on Monday, Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General said the global body strongly encourage respect and tolerance for all religions.
Without mentioning context and its leader’s names, the BJP had issued a statement saying that it respects all religions and strongly denounces insults of any religious personality. The party’s statement comes after demonstrations by Muslim groups and the sharp reaction from countries like Kuwait, Qatar and Iran.

Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks have gained global attention on Sunday when the countries like Qatar and Kuwait summoned India’s envoys and handed over a protest note.
Several hashtags like NupurSharmaSuspended, ShameOnBJP, BoycottQatarAirways and ProphetMuhammad are still trending on Twitter since Sunday morning.
However, at least 15 countries, including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Iran, Jordan, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Maldives, Libya and Indonesia have officially launched a protests against India over the BJP leaders derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.
The countries also expressed their denunciation and rejection of insults of the Prophet Muhammad and demanded an apology from the government.
This was started last week after remarks by the BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma on a TV debate and the Delhi media in-charge Naveen Jindal’s now-deleted tweets. This led to protests, FIRs and communal violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur and Agra.
Soon the outrage spread across the globe and India received a massive backlash with several hashtags trending on social media.
