India clinch 2-0 series win over West Indies after KL Rahul’s steady half-century in Delhi test

India completed a 2-0 series clean sweep over West Indies in Delhi as KL Rahul anchored the chase of 121 with an unbeaten half-century.

Team India defeated West Indies by seven wickets on the final day of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, to complete a 2-0 clean sweep in the series. Chasing a modest target of 121, the hosts reached 124/3 in 35.2 overs, powered by KL Rahul’s composed unbeaten half-century.

India began Day 5 at 63/1, with Rahul and Sai Sudharsan adopting a cautious approach early on. Despite a disciplined spell from the West Indies bowlers, Rahul gradually shifted gears, hitting boundaries and sixes to ease the chase. Sai Sudharsan contributed 39 before edging one to the slips off Roston Chase, while skipper Shubman Gill (13) fell attempting an aggressive shot.

However, Rahul’s 50 — his 21st in Test cricket — ensured India crossed the finish line without further hiccups, alongside Dhruv Jurel.

West Indies’ Late Fight Fails To Change Outcome

The Caribbean side showed fighting spirit on Day 4, posting 390 in their second innings, with John Campbell registering his maiden Test century. Despite their bowlers’ late push, they couldn’t prevent India’s dominance.

India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah (3/44) and Kuldeep Yadav (3/104), were instrumental in setting up the win. Their efforts restricted West Indies’ lead and paved the way for a comfortable chase.

India Extend 23-Year Unbeaten Run Over West Indies

With this victory, India have maintained their 23-year-long unbeaten record against West Indies in Test cricket — the Caribbeans last won a Test against India in 2002. The win also gives India a significant boost in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025–27.

Yashasvi Jaiswal slams 150 as India dominate West Indies on day 1, Shubman Gill suffers minor collision

Yashasvi Jaiswal powered India to a dominant position on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in New Delhi with a fluent 150. Skipper Shubman Gill survived a minor collision while Sudharsan fell short of his maiden century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his stunning red-ball form with a commanding 150-run knock on the opening day of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. At stumps, India stood tall at 311/2 in 87 overs, with Jaiswal unbeaten alongside skipper Shubman Gill.

Jaiswal reached his seventh Test century, matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record as the only Indian players to score seven or more Test tons before turning 24. The 22-year-old left-hander displayed immaculate control throughout the innings, punishing loose deliveries with elegance and precision.

He shared a crucial second-wicket stand with B Sai Sudharsan, who narrowly missed out on a maiden hundred, falling leg-before for 87 runs. Their partnership marked the first century stand between two Indian left-handers for the second wicket in over five decades.

Shubman Gill’s First Toss Win And Injury Scare

Earlier, India captain Shubman Gill won the toss for the first time as Test skipper and chose to bat first — ending a six-match streak of losing tosses. However, he endured a brief injury scare in the final session after an awkward collision with West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach while running a single. Both players received on-field treatment and resumed play soon after.

Gill later settled in cautiously, rotating the strike as Jaiswal took charge against the West Indies bowlers. The hosts approached the second new ball cautiously, ensuring no further hiccups before the end of play.

West Indies Struggle To Find Breakthroughs

The visitors, led by Roston Chase, found little success throughout the day. Their bowlers failed to extract much from the surface, and fielding lapses — including a dropped catch — compounded their problems.

The only bright moment came when Sudharsan was trapped in front by sharp turn. Apart from that, India’s batters dictated the tempo, punishing any hint of inconsistency.

India will now look to convert this strong start into a massive first-innings total, with Jaiswal eyeing a double century when play resumes on Day 2.

Rohit Sharma retirement row: Manoj Tiwary urges India star to quit after captaincy snub

Manoj Tiwary has advised Rohit Sharma to retire from ODIs after being replaced by Shubman Gill as India’s ODI captain, calling the move “disrespectful.”

Rohit Sharma

Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has come out in support of Rohit Sharma after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to hand over India’s ODI captaincy to Shubman Gill. The move, which marks the end of Rohit’s captaincy stint in the format, has sparked a heated debate among fans and experts.

Tiwary, who shared the dressing room with Rohit early in his career, said the veteran batter should “retire with dignity” instead of facing continued uncertainty about his place in the side.

“I don’t think he (Rohit) is really in their plans anymore. Everything now depends on his performance. If I were Rohit Sharma, I would have considered retirement after this,” Tiwary said in an interview.

He added that Rohit’s achievements deserved far more respect.

“A player like him doesn’t deserve this kind of humiliation. He didn’t just win one ICC trophy — he won two. He came so close in the ODI World Cup as well, performing brilliantly as captain and player. He also has five IPL titles. After all that, to be treated this way is just not right,” he remarked.

Tiwary further suggested that Rohit should step away before being pushed out.

“Before they push him out, it would be better if he himself steps away — at least that way, he can leave with his dignity intact,” he said.

Rohit Sharma’s ODI legacy

Rohit Sharma’s record as India’s ODI captain remains among the best. With a win percentage of 75, he boasts the highest success rate for any Indian captain with more than 10 matches in charge. Under his leadership, India reached the 2023 ODI World Cup final unbeaten and went on to clinch the Champions Trophy 2025 title without losing a single game.

Despite the leadership change, Rohit is still part of India’s ODI setup and is expected to feature in the upcoming three-match series against Australia later this month.
