It looks like Twitter has some great news for their users who were eagerly waiting for an edit button. Recently, Twitter made an announcement in which they said that they are working to allow users to edit their tweets after posting them. It is reported that Twitter is planning to test the feature with Twitter Blue subscribers in the coming months.
Twitter’s head of consumer product Jay Sullivan said that they’ve been exploring how to build an Edit feature in a safe manner since last year and plan to begin testing it within Twitter Blue Labs in the coming months. Sharing a few more insights on how we’re thinking about Edit.
It was mentioned that now that everyone is asking, yes, they’ve been working on an edit feature since last year! Twitter further said that they are testing the feature within Twitter Blue Labs in the coming months to learn what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible.
Earlier, Twitter shared a tweet on April Fools Day that they are working on an edit button but everyone thought that it was a prank. But now, they commented on their previous tweet and said that they were not joking.

Jay Sullivan also said that edit has been the most requested Twitter feature for many years. People want to be able to fix (sometimes embarrassing) mistakes, typos and hot take at the moment. They are currently working around this by deleting and tweeting again.
He further said that without things like time limits, controls, and transparency about what has been edited, Edit could be misused to alter the record of the public conversation. Protecting the integrity of that public conversation is their top priority when they approach this work.
Therefore, it will take time and they will be actively seeking input and adversarial thinking in advance of launching Edit. They will approach this feature with care and thoughtfulness and will share updates as they go, Sullivan added further.
He concluded by saying that this is just one feature that they are exploring as they work to give people more choice and control over their Twitter experience, foster a healthy conversation, and help people be more comfortable on Twitter. These are the things that motivate them every day.
