Telangana CM KCR’s daughter K Kavitha reaches ED office in Delhi excise scam, BRS party workers gather outside CM residence

The ED case alleges that K Kavitha is part of the South Cartel that benefited from kickbacks after Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy came into force.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha has arrived at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.

The BRS party workers have gathered outside the KCR’s residence in the national capital. The Delhi Police and central paramilitary forces personnel barricade the ED office after her supporters staged a protest at the ED headquarters located on APJ Abdul Kalam Road.

BRS MLC on Friday participated in a day-long hunger strike in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar seeking the passage of the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

There are reports that Kavitha will be made to sit face-to-face with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who was arrested in connection with the same case on Monday night. The ED has called Pillai a key person in the Delhi excise policy scam.

The ED case alleges that K Kavitha is part of the South Cartel that benefited from kickbacks after Delhi’s now-scrapped liquor policy came into force. The South Group comprises Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others.

The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency investigation has revealed.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia is currently lodged in Tihar Jail after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Agency (CBI) on February 26 in the alleged involvement in the irregularities in the now-scrapped liquor policy.

The ED arrested Sisodia on Wednesday, a day before his bail plea in the CBI case. He has now been sent to ED custody for 7 days till March 17 and his bail plea will be heard on Macrh 21.

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati took a jibe on the Congress and the BJP terming former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s US speech to be a harsh truth.

On Friday, the BSP leader took to her official twitter handle to write Gandhi’s recent speech at US about the status of Dalits and Muslims society in India  to be a bitter truth and blamed the ruling BJP, its predecessor Congress  and the past governments who ruled the country for such situation.

Rahul Gandhi who is on a three-city tour of the US, has been holding various interactions at different events. Gandhi spoke about how the Muslims, Dalits, Sikhs, Christians and other religions feel attacked in India.

The former Uttar Pradesh CM also wrote, whether it is the government of Congress or BJP or SP in other states including UP, the injustice-atrocities and exploitation are common at every level on the poor and deprived of the majority Bahujan Samaj.

She claimed, while in UP, only the BSP government had governed by the law and justice was done to all by establishing the rule of law.

Mayawati further added, if history would be traced, it is filled with dark chapters of incessant and countless communal riots and casteist incidents which were undertaken for political and electoral interests, for which allegations and counter-allegations are made by the political parties but due to these reasons people of these classes are constantly exploited and victimized despite their benevolent constitution and they remain helpless.

The BJP is attacking Gandhi over his remarks in US about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, press freedom and institutions in the country. BJP is in view that the Congress leader holds no bar to insult India at the International forum.

Gandhi arrived in US earlier this week is slated to conclude his trip by addressing a public event in New York on June 4.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday, while speaking at at the National Press Club in Washington said the BJP can be defeated in the 2024 general elections by an united opposition and the outcome will surprise people.

The Congress leader who is on US tour, while an interaction at the Washington Press said it is hidden feeling that the Congress party is going to perform very well within the next two years and the outcome is going to surprise the people.

Gandhi also expressing his confidence on the opposition unity said the opposition parties in India are well united and he thinks it is getting stronger. Gandhi said the talks of opposition unity is underway and good work is happening on it.

The Congress leader also indicted on the upcoming state elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh pointing out the recently held Karnataka assembly elections where his party defeated the BJP.

Gandhi said to just sit and watch as Karnataka was just a trailer of what’s coming next.

The Congress won all three states Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and MP in the last held 2018 assembly elections. The elections of these states are due later this year.

The former Congress chief also said about press freedom in India and institutions in the country.

Gandhi on a question of worldwide popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he does not believe everything he hears and the press and the institutions are captured in the country.

He said press freedom is very crucial for a democratic nation.

He also put stress on his Bharat Jodo Yatra rally from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and said during his march he got to interact directly with millions of Indians and said they did not seem happy, affected with issues like rising unemployment and inflation.  

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi again has drawn criticism from the BJP saying he does not back off from insulting the country on foreign soil.

Gandhi landed in US on May 30 as a part of his three-city tour of the country. He is expected to end his tour by addressing a public gathering in New York on June 4.

On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin as a part of his nationwide campaign to seek support of opposition leaders in his fight against ordinance.

Kejriwal post the meeting with Stalin addressed the media saying if the elected government don’t hold any control over the officials, there is no value of having an elected government. He said it is first time in the history when the government negate a Court verdict, he further termed it unconstitutional and undemocratic.

The Delhi CM further added that the ordinance will soon be moved in the Rajya Sabha, he informed in the upper house the BJP has 93 seats and if all non-BJP parties unite, it will be possible to defeat the BJP.

Kejriwal thanked Stlain for his support and said with each passing day he is getting more confident and termed it a semi-final of the 2024 general elections.

The AAP leader was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Since, last month Kejriwal has embarked on a pan India tour to meet and garner support of the various opposition parties and leaders in order to defeat the ordinance in Rajya Sabha.

The AAP leader until now has held meetings with his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav, Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray.

Kejriwal is also schduled to meet Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday.

The Centre last month had moved an ordinance to nullify the Supreme Court judgement in favour of the Delhi government giving it the powers of transfer and postings of officials working under it.

The Supreme Court had solved the 8-year long dispute between the Centre and Delhi government, ordering in favour of it but later was changed by the Centre moved ordinance taking back the power to its hands.
