A right-wing Hindu outfit, Monday, staged a bizarre protest against Valentine’s Day by staging mock dog weddings in Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga.

As per report, functionaries of the Hindu Munnani outfit performed a wedding between two dogs, to register their protest against Valentine’s Day celebrations, which they termed as anti-Hindu and against the Indian culture.

A video of the weird incident which is doing the rounds on social media, shows the outfit’s members dressing up two dogs with clothes and garlands and “tie the knot” between the two beasts to symbolically show that the animals have been married.

In a statement, the hardline Hindu outfit has claimed that lovers “misbehave” in public areas on Valentine’s Day and they performed the dog wedding in protest.

Earlier, on February 8, the Centre had issued a notification to observe Valentine’s Day as “Cow Hug Day”, urging people to hug cows instead of following a western tradition.

The Animal Welfare Board of India, which operates under the Animal Husbandry Ministry headed by BJP minister Parshottam Rupala, reasoned with their appeal for Cow Hug Day by claiming that it will help bring emotional richness and increase individual and collective happiness.

However, the notification was rescinded after it conjured up a storm of funny memes on social media and also received flak from various sections of the society.

BJP rival and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday took a swipe at the aborted “Cow Hug Day” asking if the Bharatiya Janata Party will pay compensation to if someone is hit by the cow while trying to hug the animal.

Taking a jibe at Centre’s notification asking people to hug cows on Valentine’s Day on February 14, which was later rescinded, Banerjee wondered what would happen if someone gets hurt while trying to hug a cow.

She asked: “What will happen if the cow hits us? Will they (BJP) pay compensation?”
