Dunki social media review: Internet says Shah Rukh Khan’s film is a masterpiece of Hindi Cinema

The emotions that Rajkumar Hirani’s characters evoke in viewers have carved out a special place in their hearts for his cinematic universe.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki was finally released globally on Thursday, December 21, and the fans all around the world are praising it. Several videos of the fans are going viral where they can be seen shaking legs on SRK’s song.

The emotions that Rajkumar Hirani’s characters evoke in viewers have carved out a special place in their hearts for his cinematic universe. He’s one of the few directors that can captivate you with the story with simply the narration of the tale.

Hirani doesn’t use situations with a lot of visual effects or loud conversation. Rather, he concentrates more on the writing and the dialogue of his characters. Five years afterwards, Hirani returns to theatres with his very first picture starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Audiences in New Zealand attended one of the earliest shows, and he shared his first impression of Dunki on X, formerly known as Twitter. The social media user praised Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan for Dunki, and called it an excellent patriotic movie. Additionally, he remarked that Vicky Kaushal’s performance would move you. Taapsee Pannu plays the key role in Dunki as well.

A user said, 1st half is a roller coster, while another appriciated Vicky Kuashal and said his performance will be remebered ever. A third user said, Rajkumar Hirani does it again. Others also appriciated the film.

Those who want to enter a country illegally are referred to as Dunki. The narrative of Hirani begins in Punjab and travels all over the world to the Middle East and London. Shah Rukh Khan’s character Hardy Singh meets a group of outcasts who hope to one day travel to London. Despite their Indian origins and affinity for the regional tastes and hues, their hearts skip a beat as Big Ben is brought up. But getting to London is not a simple task. It’s lined with perilous quizzes and examinations where the team must study English to obtain the necessary visa.

Even though SRK is the main attraction, Hirani makes sure to give the other actors plenty of opportunities to shine. Hirani’s specialties have always been writing and conversation. Hirani’s distinctive feel-good comedy and straightforward style are evident in Dunki’s first half, which is multilayered and subtle.

Vicky Kaushal is fantastic as Sukhi, and thankfully the character has been developed by the writers despite his little appearance. When called upon, he may be ferocious and quiet at the same time. Taapsee seizes the opportunity to kill. Her timing on the comedic lines with SRK is flawless.

Dhurandhar review: Ranveer Singh roars back, Akshaye Khanna shines in intense spy thriller

Ranveer Singh returns with a ferocious performance in Dhurandhar, supported by Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and a gripping espionage storyline set against real historical events.

Dhurandhar review

Ranveer Singh makes a striking return to the big screen with Dhurandhar, delivering a fierce, layered performance in Aditya Dhar’s ambitious spy thriller. Blending historical terror incidents with a fictional revenge saga, the film explores India’s covert response to cross-border terrorism through the secret project ‘Dhurandhar’.

A brutal world built around revenge and espionage

Set around the IC-814 Kandahar hijack and the 2001 Parliament attack, Dhurandhar opens with Ajay Sanyal, an Intelligence Bureau officer played by R Madhavan, who strongly opposes releasing captured terrorists. Despite his resistance, bureaucracy prevails, setting the stage for the covert mission he later leads.

The project introduces its central weapon — Humza Ali Mazari, later revealed to be Jaskirat Singh Rangil — portrayed by Ranveer Singh with ferocity and emotional depth. Dropped straight into Karachi’s dangerous Lyari district, Humza navigates a nexus of gangs, politicians, and the ISI, with the narrative also touching upon tensions between local Pakistanis and Baloch communities.

Performances that elevate the film

Akshaye Khanna nearly steals the spotlight as a feared Lyari gangster inspired by Rehman ‘Dakait’ Baloch. Sanjay Dutt’s portrayal of SP Chaudhry Aslam brings an intimidating presence, while Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal leaves a lingering impact despite limited screen time.

Sara Arjun plays Yalina with conviction, and the film also features an unrecognisable Gaurav Gera in a surprise appearance.

Music, violence, and a split narrative

Shashwat Sachdev’s background score stands out, weaving classic Pakistani melodies with Indian retro hits to complement the film’s shifting tones. Viewers should be prepared for intense brutality, graphic torture scenes, and sudden shifts in narrative style — especially in a second half that feels markedly different from the first.

The episodic structure, archival footage, and mix of real and fictional characters add layers, though some may find the format distracting.

Ending that sets up part two

While the film does not end on a dramatic cliffhanger, its teaser for the second part — scheduled for March 19, 2026 — ensures audiences will return to witness the conclusion of Humza’s journey.
