Manisha Koirala reveals reason for rejecting Dil To Pagal Hai, says regrets that decision

Manisha Koirala, who is making a comeback with ‘Heeramandi’, spoke about declining a Yash Chopra film.

Manisha Koirala, who is waiting for the release of Heeramandi, talked about turning down Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai alongside Madhuri Dixit. She claimed that because Madhuri Dixit was the lead actor in the film, she felt insecure.

The actor talked about her long career as she prepared for a big comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi. The series is at the last leg for a big release, having endured several delays. Heeramandi is scheduled to release on Netflix on May 1.

A little-known fact is that Manisha Koirala was the one who was offered Dil Toh Pagal Hai by Yash Chopra before Karisma Kapoor. She did, however, decline the offer. It was, however, that event that further made her to reconsider her career choices.

Manisha said, she regrets not doing Yash Chopra’s film, it’s one of her career’s regrets. When Madhuri ji [Dixit] was paired opposite her, she became insecure. She withdrew from the project.

Yash Ji, when he was alive, portrayed women so beautifully that every actor of her time, wanted to work with him, Manisha continued. She went to Yash Ji’s office and said, Sir, she wanted to be his solo heroine. That was her dream. She was being caste opposite Madhuri Dixit by him. Manisha believes she missed out due to her superior judgment.

Manisha accepted director Raj Santoshi’s 2000 offer Lajja, opposite Madhu Dixit, on the spot, as she didn’t wanted to repeat the same mistake again. She said, she thought security comes from having a strong maker and being comfortable in your own skin. Her foolish insecurities made her realize that she didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. She is quite happy that she did that film. She adore Lajja so much now, Manisha added.

In Heeramandi, Manisha will star alongside actresses Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Richa Chaddha, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sharmin Segal.

Sara Ali Khan appears as Veer’s love interest, while Nimrat Kaur and Sharad Kelkar play supporting roles. Bhooth Bangla marks the reunion of Akshay and Priyadarshan after a 14-year hiatus, their last collaboration being the 2010 political satire Khatta Meetha.

Expectations are high for Bhooth Bangla, considering the notable success of their previous horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Vidya Balan and led to two sequels, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, featuring Kartik Aaryan.
