US President Joe Biden on Sunday decided to drop out of the 2024 Presidential race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the race. The US President said that he would focus all his energies on his duties as President for the rest of his term.
Soon after Joe Biden’s announcement, Vice President Kamala Harris extended gratitude to the leader for his extraordinary leadership as the president of the United States and for his decades of service to the country.
World leaders from across the globe also supported Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the Presidential race. Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz took to X and expressed that the US President’s decision not to run again deserves recognition. He added that transatlantic cooperation is close, NATO is strong and the USA is a good and reliable partner for them.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid respect to Joe BIden’s decision, and said that he is looking forward to working together for the rest of his presidency. He added that he believes Joe Biden’s decision is in the best interest of the American people. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also thanked Joe Biden and Jill Biden, calling the President a true friend to the Canadians.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk expressed that Joe Biden has made difficult decisions throughout his political career that have kept the world safer, and democracy and freedom stronger. He added that he believes that the US President followed the same principles when announcing the latest decision.
Japan PM Fumio Kishida mentioned that Joe Biden’s announcement is one of the best political decisions the US President could make. He continued that Japan-US alliance is the cornerstone of their country’s diplomacy and security, and hence they will monitor the situation closely.
Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala, described Biden’s decision to withdraw as responsible and personally difficult, but all the more valuable. The Prime Minister also acknowledged growing political uncertainty in the US.
Italy’s foreign minister and deputy PM Antonio Tajani expressed that his country must look with great serenity to the US, and that they will work well with whoever the next president is, whether Trump or Harris.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said he respects Biden’s tough but strong decision and thanked him for his unwavering support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom. Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro also termed Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race as the most sensible and correct decision.
Furthermore, Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia’s priority will still be on its war in Ukraine. He added that a lot can change before the US presidential vote in November.
