The custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ends today, and he will appear before a court on Monday. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in relation to a money laundering case involving the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.

At 11.30 am, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief will appear before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.

Police barricades have been installed at the Delhi headquarters of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as part of increased security measures.

However, the investigation team requested a seven-day extension of Kejriwal’s imprisonment, claiming that further questions about the AAP chief’s involvement in money laundering needed to be answered.

Meanwhile. on March 28, the magistrate court extended Kejriwal’s ED custody for only four days, until April 1, after the latter claimed that the ED’s goal was to destroy the AAP while he, in an unusual move, presented his own case.

The Chief Minister said in his arugement that the ED’s sole goal was to trap him in the liquor policy case.

Additionaly, the AAP national convenor has petitioned the Delhi High Court to review his arrest, claiming that the investigating agency violated his fundamental rights. Serving the ED with a notice, the court is asking for a response by April 2. On April 3, the hearing is scheduled to resume.

The hearing comes a day after prominent members of the INDIA bloc assembled at the Loktantra Bachao (Save Democracy) rally in the national capital on Sunday. This was the opposition’s first public display of strength since the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. They criticized the detention of Arvind Kejriwal and former chief minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren, and strongly urged the alliance partners to come together for the benefit of the country.
