Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services firm, has implemented a mandatory 10-day-per-month work-from-office policy, backed by a new “system intervention” process. The move aims to ensure employees comply with the hybrid work requirements while prioritizing project demands over departmental preferences.
New attendance system limits work-from-home flexibility
In an internal email, Infosys informed employees that starting March 10, 2025, the attendance system will restrict the number of work-from-home (WFH) days that can be applied each month. The system will require employees to mark their physical presence at designated office locations for at least 10 days per month.
Previously, Infosys employees used a mobile app to register attendance, which automatically approved WFH requests. However, under the new directive, such approvals will be limited, with priority given to project requirements.
Policy applies to specific employee levels
The directive applies to employees at job level 5 (JL5) and below, including software engineers, senior engineers, system engineers, and consultants. Team leaders fall under JL5, while managerial roles such as senior managers and delivery managers (JL6 and above) remain outside the mandate.
Infosys strengthens return-to-office push
Infosys has been gradually enforcing return-to-office policies since November 2023, introducing “in-person collab” weeks, where employees were required to work from office during select periods each quarter. The latest move marks a stricter implementation of hybrid work regulations.
Infosys aligns with industry trends
Tech giants globally have been rolling back remote work policies, citing concerns like productivity, team cohesion, and moonlighting. Other Indian IT firms have also adopted varying hybrid models:
- TCS: Links variable pay to a five-day office attendance requirement.
- Wipro: Requires employees to work from the office three days a week, allowing 30 remote workdays annually.
Infosys’ latest decision reflects a broader industry trend of bringing employees back to physical offices while balancing flexibility and operational efficiency.
