Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has raised serious concerns about a potential global conflict, citing the ongoing Israel-Iran and Russia-Ukraine wars as alarming indicators. Speaking at a book launch event in Maharashtra, the senior BJP leader said the current international tensions could spiral into a World War, given the ongoing breakdown in global harmony and the growing dominance of superpowers enforcing their will through authoritarianism.
Gadkari made the remarks while launching the book Beyond Borders, highlighting how the present global scenario has created an atmosphere of conflict that threatens humanity on a large scale.
Technology and global conflict: A deadly combination
Drawing attention to the drastic changes in warfare due to emerging technologies, Gadkari said that the use of missiles and drones has surpassed traditional weapons like tanks and aircraft in relevance. These modern weapons, often aimed at civilian areas, have made it increasingly difficult to protect lives, leading to a humanitarian crisis in conflict zones.
“There is an atmosphere of conflict going on across the world amid the war between Israel and Iran as well as Russia and Ukraine,” he said. “The situation is such that there is possibility of a World War taking place anytime in the backdrop of these two ongoing wars.”
He further cautioned that the technological arms race is contributing to a dangerous geopolitical climate. With missiles now capable of striking densely populated areas, the threat to innocent lives has intensified, demanding urgent global dialogue and policy review.
Call for peace and policy reassessment
Nitin Gadkari also reflected on India’s rich cultural heritage rooted in the teachings of Buddha, advocating truth, non-violence, and peace. He stressed the importance of formulating future policies by taking into account the global developments, especially the emerging patterns of war and conflict.
“It won’t be right to say so but (fact is) all this is slowly leading to destruction,” he remarked, pointing out that authoritarianism and dictatorial tendencies of global powers are eroding coordination, harmony, and love among nations.
Gadkari’s remarks serve as a sharp reminder of the deteriorating global peace situation and the urgent need for international cooperation to prevent escalation into a large-scale war.
