Rivaba Jadeja, the BJP leader and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Gujarat’s Jamnagar (north) constituency, found herself embroiled in a heated verbal exchange with fellow BJP members, including the city’s municipal mayor Bina Kothari and Lok Sabha MP Poonamben Madam. The dispute emerged when Rivaba Jadeja, who is also the wife of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, claimed that MP Poonamben Madam made derogatory remarks towards her after she removed her shoes to pay her respects to fallen soldiers.
During the Meri Mitti Mera Desh event on Independence Day, the MP initially paid her respects to the fallen soldiers while wearing her shoes. Later, she removed her shoes to perform the same gesture, a pattern that other leaders also followed, according to Rivaba’s account. Rivaba asserted that she overheard the MP’s comments, where she was labeled as over smart for taking off her shoes.
Rivaba clarified that, while standing, she heard the MP comparing her actions to those of the Prime Minister and the President, stating that they didn’t remove their shoes during similar programs. The MP implied that some people were being oversmart. Rivaba defended her actions, asserting her right to uphold her self-respect.
As the disagreement escalated, Rivaba directed her frustration towards the city mayor, Bina Kothari, who she believed was unwarrantedly intervening and supporting the MP. Rivaba Jadeja, who secured victory in the Jamnagar Assembly seat the previous year, expressed her dissatisfaction openly, highlighting tensions within the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in Gujarat.
The incident transpired during an event commemorating the Mera Desh, Meri Mitti program, and a widely circulated video captured Rivaba addressing both the city mayor and the Lok Sabha MP. While the city mayor refrained from engaging in arguments, it was evident that Poonamben Madam attempted to diffuse the situation, given Rivaba Jadeja’s prominent position as the wife of Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja.
