The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party has termed the morning developments in Maharashtra as “undemocratic”, which it said, “disrespected” the mandate of the state’s people.
“The way the government was formed in Maharashtra is undemocratic and it disrespected the mandate of the people of the state,” senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh said.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also took to Twitter to quip, “Abki baar – chori chhipe sarkar”.
Earlier this morning, Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the chief minister for the second time while Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was sworn-in as his deputy.
Ajit Pawar’s uncle and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, however, said he had no idea about his plans and stressed that his party will support the Shiv Sena to form the government.
“The dark act that took place in Maharashtra in the dark of night is the act of killing the dignity of democracy of this country,” Sanjay Singh said.
Singh also said the role of the governor has been reduced to that of a “gatekeeper who is saluting those in power”.
“Raj Bhavan has turned into Raja Bhavan,” he said.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered oath to Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar at the Raj Bhavan at 8 am, a few hours after President’s rule was revoked in the state at 5.47 am.
Results of the Maharashtra Assembly polls were declared on October 24, but the state plunged into a political crisis after the Shiv Sena broke its three-decade-long relationship with the BJP over power sharing.
After the Governor invited one party after another, no existing or new alliance had the numbers to form the government, putting the state under President’s rule.
The Shiv Sena then approached erstwhile rivals NCP and Congress and after intense deliberations, Sharad Pawar on Friday said that a consensus had been reached and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray would lead the new government in Maharashtra.
