40 fake BHIM apps on Google Play Store

By Shiva Sharma in Kanpur
Over 40 fake BHIM apps have surfaced in Google Play Store post the launch of the original by PM Narendra Modi on December 30, 2016. The fake mobile apps are being used to empty the user’s bank accounts. APN is the first to report this story.
One of the fake apps, Modi Bhim, might be attracting most users. Jai Bhim and Bhim Payment are the names of a few other apps. There are apprehensions that customers will upload their personal bank account details on these apps which could easily reach the hackers.
Speaking to APN, Superintendent of Police (Crime), Kanpur, Jitendra Kumar Shrivastav, advised customers to be careful while uploading and transacting on BHIM. He asked people to download this app only from the National Payments Corporation and verify its authenticity ahead of it. As more and more Indians opt for cashless transactions, there should be more awareness on digitization as sharing one’s credit or debit card details to start transactions would prove to be suicidal for a large number of people, who are struggling to adjust to the new situation in the market.
Modi had inaugurated Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) for promoting cashless transactions in a bid to ease the tough post-demonetisation phase.
