Launching yet another searing assault on the Gandhi family, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thursday, questioned why the Gandhis shy away from using the Nehru surname after India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Speaking in reply to Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address in Rajya Sabha, PM Modi asked why the Congress gets upset when they (BJP) sometimes miss mentioning Nehru anywhere while none of them even use his surname.
In a direct jibe at the Gandhi family, the PM asked why they (Gandhis) are “ashamed” and shy away from using the Nehru name when he (Nehru) was such a great man.
The Prime Minister roared that the country is not the property of any family and belongs to the people of India, amid loud chants from the opposition demanding probe into the Adani controversy.
PM Modi also targeted the Congress and its prime ministers, accusing the grand-old party of brushing aside its own mountain of controversies and scandals.

He said that they (Congress) accuse the BJP regime of troubling states while the Congress itself has toppled elected state governments 90 times, adding that former Congress Prime Minister Indira Gandhi used Article 356 fifty times to sack elected state governments.
Jawaharlal Nehru is the great maternal grandfather of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Gandhi’s take their surname after their paternal great grandfather Feroze Gandhi.
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi, while participating in a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, claimed that Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani’s fortunes skyrocketed after the BJP came to power in 2014 and he rose from the 609th to the second spot in the global rich list.
Earlier, in another scathing attack on the Congress the PM Modi said that the BJP practices “true secularism” which ensures that common man becomes the primary beneficiary of the central government’s schemes.
Speaking in reply to Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address in Rajya Sabha, PM Modi in a clear dig at the opposition, asserted that the lotus (BJP’s symbol) will bloom “no matter how much you sling at us.”
