ICC T20I Rankings: Ravi Bishnoi becomes World’s No. 1 bowler, replaces Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan

After succeeding in his first task as the T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav is still at first in the batting rankings. In the T20I series, a youthful Indian team led by Suryakumar defeated Australia 4-1.

After an outstanding performance in the just finished T20I series against Australia, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has taken the top spot among bowlers in the ICC T20I rankings. Bishnoi is the latest addition to an exclusive group of Indian bowlers, which also includes Jasprit Bumrah, who are the top bowlers in the Men’s T20I rankings.

In Men’s T20I Cricket, India leads the world in both batting and bowling rankings as Ravi Bishnoi joins Suryakumar Yadav. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was displaced as the number one player by Ravi Bishnoi. The Lucknow Super Giants player, who was ranked No. 5 the previous week, has risen five ranks to overtake the spin sensation from Afghanistan.

After succeeding in his first task as the T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav is still at first in the batting rankings. In the T20I series, a youthful Indian team led by Suryakumar defeated Australia 4-1.

When he was ranked No. 5 last week, Ravi Bishnoi had 664 points; however, after his heroics against Australia, he gained 34 extra points. With 699 points, Bishnoi surpasses Rashid Khan, who had been in first place since March 2023, by 7.

Ravi took nine wickets in just five matches during the T20I series against Australia, making him the top wicket-taker. Considering that Bishnoi only made his T20I debut in February 2022, this is an incredible accomplishment. He has taken 34 wickets in 21 games that he has participated in.

He has raised his hand and reminded the selectors that he is a serious contender for the 2024 T20 World Cup based on his previous performances. Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav are just a few of the fierce competitors Bishnoi must contend with for the coveted spinners’ positions.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, meanwhile, held onto his seventh place ranking in the ICC Batting Order. Gaikwad finished the just concluded T20I series with 223 runs in 5 matches. In the third Twenty20 International in Guwahati, he scored a century, but a Glenn Maxwell special made it all for naught.

In the ICC T20I All-rounders rating, Hardik Pandya, who captained India in 11 Twenty20 Internationals in 2023, is still ranked third. Since sustaining an ankle injury during the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh, he has not been able to play.

Suryakumar is still in first place, though. He was healthier than Pakistan’s Muhammad Rizwan, who came in second.

India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, recently shared his feelings about not being included in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Despite his exclusion, Yadav expressed a positive outlook, especially regarding his role in the T20 format where he remains a key player for the national team.

Yadav, known for his aggressive batting style in T20 cricket, has not mirrored the same success in the One Day International (ODI) format. Over 37 ODI matches, he has amassed 773 runs at an average of 25.76, which he admits is not up to the mark. His candid reflection on his performance highlighted a mature approach to his career and selection matters.

“Why would it hurt? If I had performed better, I would have been in the Champions Trophy squad,” Yadav said during a press conference. “It’s crucial to accept the outcomes and support the team selected for the tournament. The current squad has performers who have proved their mettle in ODIs and deserve their spots.”

The explosive batsman also commented on the formidable bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, emphasizing their importance to the team’s success in international tournaments. Although Bumrah is currently sidelined with back issues and will miss the T20 series against England, Yadav is optimistic about the team’s prospects with such experienced players.

As the T20 series against England approaches, Yadav’s focus shifts to leading India with the hope of contributing significantly and proving his mettle as a leader and player. His attitude towards his omission from the Champions Trophy roster reflects a balanced perspective, focusing on personal improvement and team success in future engagements.

Gautam Gambhir trusts the captain on field: Rohit Sharma on dressing room leaks

However, during a press conference on Saturday, Ajit Agarkar announced India’s squad for the upcoming England ODIs and the 2025 Champions Trophy, reaffirming Rohit’s captaincy as he was included in the squad. The announcement took place in Mumbai and was made in the presence of Rohit.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy of Team India in Tests and ODIs is facing scrutiny following his lackluster performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The seasoned player was absent for the first Test, which India won in Perth, with Jasprit Bumrah stepping in as the acting captain. Upon his return from paternity leave before the second Test, things took a turn for the worse, culminating in a disappointing 1-3 series defeat.

In addition to his subpar performance, several controversies have emerged that have not aided his standing as skipper. Reports of leaks from the dressing room surfaced, and Rohit ultimately chose to withdraw from the final Test due to his struggles. Furthermore, media speculation suggested that there might be a rift between him and head coach Gautam Gambhir, raising questions about his future as captain.

During the press conference, Rohit addressed inquiries regarding his relationship with Gambhir, particularly following the dressing room leak allegations. He stated, “Both of us are very clear on what we wanted to do. I am not going to sit here and discuss what goes behind the scenes, every game tactically.”

He further emphasised, “It’s very clear in my mind. Gautam Gambhir is someone who trusts the captain on the field once we enter it. The discussions happen off the field, and when we take the field, it’s all about my decisions. That’s the kind of trust we share, and that’s how it should be.”

According to reports, Gambhir has expressed concerns about discipline within the Indian squad during the Australian series. Additionally, there are suggestions that the relationship between Gambhir and Rohit may have deteriorated, with another senior player reportedly lobbying for the captaincy position.
