The film began streaming on Netflix from December 29, but after a backlash and several police complaints, it has now been pulled from the OTT platform.

Amidst massive outrage over the Tamil film Annapoorani, a case has been lodged against actor Nayanthara, film director Nilesh Krishnaa, producers Jatin Sethi and R Ravindran and Netflix India’s content head Monika Shergill.

Reports stated that the First Information Report (FIR), has been filed by a right-wing outfit in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. The FIR alleged that the accused hurt religious sentiments of Hindus, disrespected Lord Ram and promoted ‘Love Jihad’ through the movie.

The case was filed at the Omti police station by fringe outfit Hindu Sewa Parishad. The FIR has been filed under Indian Penal Code sections pertaining to promoting enmity among groups on the grounds of religion, and common intent.

The Tamil film, which was released in theatres on December 1, began streaming on Netflix on December 29. After a backlash and several police complaints, it has now been pulled from the OTT platform.

Last week, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Shriraj Nair condemned the film for derogatory comments on Lord Rama after a scene from the film labeled him as a meat eater. He reportedly warned Zee Studios, the producers of the film, demanding immediate removal of the film from OTT giant Netflix. In response, Zee Studios apologized to VHP and removed the film from the streaming platform.

Meanwhile, the controversy comes at a time when the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is just days away, and some of the complainants have also pointed to this. Social Media users have agreed with the complainants allegations and called for action against the makers of the film.

Additionally, a political controversy has also broken out over the consecration ceremony, with the Congress brass stating that it will not attend the event on January 22. The BJP has hit back at the party and several other members of the INDIA alliance and also released a poster alleging that the opposition bloc is anti-Sanatana Dharma.

Lady Gaga says she had an amazing time with Jenna Ortega shooting for Wednesday’s Season 2

“I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other, so if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other,” Ortega noted.

Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Lady Gaga has publicly discussed her upcoming collaboration with Jenna Ortega in the eagerly awaited second season of the hit Netflix series Wednesday. Gaga, who will be appearing in an undisclosed role, shared her excitement during a recent interview while promoting her latest album.

In her conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gaga expressed her enthusiasm about joining the cast but emphasized her desire to keep details about her character under wraps. “I don’t want to give away anything about being part of the show. I want to keep it extra secret — but, I love Jenna, and I really had an amazing time!” she remarked.

Rumors about Gaga’s involvement began in November when it was announced that she had been filming in Europe for the gothic series. Although her character’s specifics remain undisclosed, fans are eager to learn more as the season approaches.

The show, which premiered in 2022, centers around Wednesday Addams, portrayed by Ortega, as she navigates her life at Nevermore Academy, exploring her psychic abilities along the way. Wednesday has quickly become a cultural sensation, featuring an ensemble cast that includes Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Christina Ricci, who famously played a role in the 1991 Addams Family films.

Ortega has openly admired Gaga for years and had previously hoped that the icon would join the series. At the 2023 Golden Globes, she even mused about how Gaga could fit into the Wednesday narrative, suggesting a potential connection between their characters. “I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other, so if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other,” Ortega noted.

Furthermore, the bond between Jenna and Gaga has deepened outside the show. Gaga’s 2011 hit “Bloody Mary” gained renewed popularity, thanks to fans pairing it with Ortega’s viral dance scene, leading to unexpected chart success for the track more than a decade after its release. With the anticipation building, viewers are excited to see how this collaboration unfolds in the upcoming season.

Karnataka Budget 2025-26: Cinema tickets capped at Rs 200, state-run OTT platform announced

Furthermore, the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy plans to develop a multiplex complex on a 2.5-acre plot in Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, in partnership with the private sector.

In a significant development for the Kannada film industry, the Karnataka Government announced in its latest budget that it will impose a cap of Rs 200 on movie ticket prices for all theatres across the state, including multiplexes. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah introduced the budget for the financial year 2025-26, which has a total outlay of Rs 4,08,647 crore. This budget emphasized infrastructure investment, cinema promotion, and women’s empowerment, with the ticket price cap being a major point of interest.

The Kannada film industry, which has long sought regulation of cinema ticket pricing, received a substantial boost from this decision. Home Minister G Parameshwara commented during the Question Hour that although the government typically allows exhibitors to set their own ticket prices, it maintains the authority to intervene when necessary, signaling a willingness to regulate these costs. Notably, this isn’t the first time ticket prices have been capped; Siddaramaiah had previously set a similar limit in multiplexes during his earlier term.

Other states, such as Tamil Nadu, also regulate ticket prices, with cinema seats available for as low as Rs 120, making it one of the most affordable places for moviegoers. While this pricing strategy benefits audiences, especially in metropolitan areas like Bengaluru where ticket prices can be prohibitively high, it poses challenges for theatre owners and distributors who are advocating for the removal of such caps.

In addition to the ticketing news, the Congress Government granted the cinema sector official industry status, extending various industry benefits to it. Furthermore, the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy plans to develop a multiplex complex on a 2.5-acre plot in Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, in partnership with the private sector.

Additionally, with an investment of Rs 3 crores, a repository for both digital and non-digital Kannada films is set to be established, aiming to preserve the cultural, historical, and social significance of these films. Lastly, to enhance the visibility and marketing of Kannada cinema, the government announced the launch of a state-run OTT platform dedicated to promoting Kannada films.
