The Accidental Prime Minister

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Vijay Gutte directorial ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ has been facing criticism ever since its trailer was released last month.

A petition has been filed in a Bihar court against actors Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna- who’re playing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his media adviser Sanjaya Baru, respectively, in the film.

Lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha filed the case in Muzaffarpur’s Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court. The court has admitted the case and fixed January 8 to hear the case in Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate court.

Advocate Ojha in his petition complained that Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna, who have played the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his media adviser Sanjaya Baru in the film, have damaged the image of both of them. “It hurt me and many others,” he said.

Addressing the hullabaloo, Khanna recently told Mumbai Mirror, “If you make an authentic political film, which talks of real people and real events, in a politically conscious country like India, it is but natural that people will react to it in different ways and there will be a collage of opinions. That’s to be expected and if it didn’t happen, I would have been disappointed. But at the end of the day, it’s just a film, not an earthquake or a Tsunami, so let us not get too carried away.”

Calling The Accidental Prime Minister a mature entertainer, he added, “Yes, we have made a political film, but it has not deviated from the book or from facts that are already in the public domain. We’re not showing anything new in terms of what people already know, have seen or heard. What we have made is a mature entertainer and I know people will come out of the theatre with a smile.”

The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on January 11.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently expressed his intrigue regarding the public’s interest in a sequel to his beloved 2007 film Jab We Met. This renewed curiosity comes on the heels of actors Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan sharing a stage at the recent 25th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Jaipur, which many fans eagerly celebrated as a nostalgic reunion of their iconic characters, Aditya and Geet.

During an interaction with PTI, Ali remarked, “It’s fascinating that people are linking Shahid and Kareena’s meeting at IIFA to Jab We Met. Shahid mentioned that he believes I have moved on from the film, but I think everyone has. It’s been a significant amount of time since the film’s release.”

Despite the enduring love for the romantic drama, which tells the story of a heartbroken businessman and a free-spirited woman, Ali doesn’t plan to make a sequel. “We should cherish what we have rather than risk tarnishing it with a sequel,” he stated. While he acknowledges the talent and charm of both actors, he clarified that he is not currently developing a project that involves them together.

Ali, known for a variety of feature films including Love Aaj KalRockstarTamashaHighway, and Amar Singh Chamkila, shared his thoughts while walking the red carpet at the I View World Film Festival on Wednesday. The event kicked off with a screening of My Melbourne, an anthology created in collaboration with directors like Onir, Rima Das, and Kabir Khan.

Additionally, Ali is set to release a new film titled Jules, which explores the unique friendship between a newlywed food blogger and a homeless woman in Melbourne. “This is a film featuring a very diverse cast with numerous voices, genders, nationalities, and languages. I’m excited about its premiere on March 14 during Holi, celebrated across India,” he enthused.

The festival, organized by Engendered—a trans-national arts and human rights organization—will take place at the exquisite Travancore Palace and will continue until March 16.
