Baisakhi is one of the prosperous festivals which is celebrated in Punjab. This auspicious festival is also known as ‘Vaisakhi’ by the people. On the first day of the Vaisakh month, the festival Baisakhi falls and is celebrated annually on April 13 in Northern India as a celebration of the spring crop.

Vaisakhi is also a prominent Sikh holiday, commemorating the establishment of the Khalsa discipline on March 30th, 1699, by Guru Gobind Singh, Sikhism’s tenth Guru.

Vaisakhi commemorates significant events in the history of Sikhism that occurred in the Punjab region, in addition to its significance as a harvest festival during which Sikhs hold kirtans, visit local Gurdwaras, community fairs, hold nagar kirtan processions, raise the Nishan Sahib flag, and gather to socialize and share festive foods.

On the occasion of National Press Day, the Election Commission of India shared an archival photo of a press conference from 1967. The National Press Day is observed every year on November 16 to celebrate the importance of a free and responsible press in a democratic society. The day also commemorates the establishment of the Press Council of India, which acts as a regulatory body for the news media industry in the country. 

Sharing the archival photo on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, the Election Commission of India said that the picture is of a press conference from 1967, addressed by then Chief Election Commissioner KVK Sundaram. 

Meanwhile, several political leaders also extended their greetings to the journalists on the occasion of National Press Day. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur took to X and wrote that a free press forms the bedrock of democracy and is rightly regarded as its fourth pillar. He also saluted all the journalists who dedicatedly perform their duties in a responsible, unbiased and professional manner, bringing news and educating masses on a variety of issues.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his best wishes to all journalist friends on the National Press Day. He said that journalists are vigilant sentinels of democracy. He also congratulated all the journalists for continuously serving democracy with impartiality and fearlessness.

Extending warm greetings on the occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the free press is the cornerstone of democracy and gives voice to the people. He further asked masses to pledge to safeguard the independence of the fourth pillar of democracy and empower the people with unbiased information.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also conveyed greetings to the journalists stating them to be the guardians of truth. He added that journalist’s words shape their reality, shedding light on the stories that matter. He also extended gratitude to the fraternity for their unwavering dedication to journalism.

To make Kalakand at home condensed milk is simmered with paneer until it thickens. Cardomom powder is added and mixed well. The mixture is spread on a grease tray and then it is left to set. The sweet dish is garnished with chopped nuts and refrigerated until firm. The sweet is sliced into squares for a delightful experience.
