Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting, where he informed political leaders that Indian military operations targeting terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), named ‘Operation Sindoor’, resulted in the elimination of at least 100 terrorists, stated AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Thursday.
This meeting took place amid rising tensions with Pakistan and marked the second all-party gathering since the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The session aimed to update political leaders on ‘Operation Sindoor’ and its outcomes.
According to the leaders present, the Defence Minister emphasised that the operation is ongoing and warned that India would retaliate if Pakistan were to launch any attacks following the strikes. Notably, Pakistan announced on Wednesday its intention to respond to India’s precise military actions.
Following the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed the media, highlighting the goal of achieving a broad political consensus. He noted that the leaders demonstrated a spirit of cooperation and refrained from engaging in political disputes.
Rijiju mentioned that there were shared concerns regarding national security and the safety of all Indians, especially those living in border regions, but emphasised a unified stance against terrorism.
During the meeting, Rijiju remarked on the collective maturity shown by the leaders at a time when collaboration is crucial, with all members praising and congratulating the armed forces for their efforts in Operation Sindoor.
He conveyed that the Defence Minister explained the ongoing nature of the operation, which is why he could not disclose specific technical details and why no military officials were present at the meeting due to their involvement in operations.
Opposition leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, expressed their support for the armed forces and the government’s counter-terrorism measures. They acknowledged receiving confidential information from the Centre but affirmed their unity with the government in these challenging times.
In addition, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi praised both the armed forces and the Government of India for conducting Operation Sindoor. He suggested launching an international campaign to classify the terror organisation TRF in the UN Security Council and urged the United States to designate TRF as a foreign terrorist organisation.
The meeting included Union Ministers Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, JP Nadda, and Nirmala Sitharaman representing the government, while prominent opposition figures included Rahul Gandhi, Kharge, Sandip Bandyopadhyay of the Trinamool Congress, and T.R. Baalu from the DMK.
Other attendees represented various parties, including the Samajwadi Party, AAP, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, BJD, and CPI(M).
In response to the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces conducted missile strikes on nine terrorist targets in Pakistan and PoK early Wednesday, including the stronghold of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s base in Muridke. These military actions were part of ‘Operation Sindoor’, taking place just two weeks after the tragic killing of 26 civilians in Pahalgam. The government had previously convened an all-party meeting on April 24 to discuss this attack.
