After a landslide victory of the Congress in the Karnataka assembly election on Saturday, intra party tensions began on whom should be crowned the next chief minister.

A Congress Legislative Party(CLP) meeting was held at the Shang-Ri-La hotel in Bengaluru, which was attended by all the newly elected legislators of the state under the purview of central appointed observers for Karnataka and other senior leaders.

Mumbai Police arrest Saif Ali Khan attacker, claim accused is Bangladeshi

He pointed out credible evidence for these suspicions, such as the lack of valid Indian documentation and items seized that suggest his nationality.

On Sunday, the Mumbai Police stated that the individual arrested for the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is suspected to be a Bangladeshi national, a conclusion drawn from evidence found among his possessions. In a media briefing, police confirmed that the attacker had taken on the name Vijay Das upon entering India.

DCP Zone 9, Dixit Gedam, identified the suspect as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, a 30-year-old man who allegedly entered Saif Ali Khan’s residence with the intent to rob. Gedam indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the accused is of Bangladeshi descent, having entered India illegally and subsequently changed his name.

Reports indicate that he arrived in Mumbai approximately 5 to 6 months ago, initially residing in the city before moving to its outskirts. The suspect was employed by a housekeeping agency, according to police sources.

“On January 16, at around 2 am, an attack occurred at Saif Ali Khan’s residence. An FIR was filed, and the suspect was arrested soon after. His identity as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, aged 30, has been confirmed. He broke into the home with robbery in mind. He will be presented in court, where a request for custody will be made, and further investigations will follow,” Gedam stated while raising concerns regarding the suspect’s Bangladeshi background.

He pointed out credible evidence for these suspicions, such as the lack of valid Indian documentation and items seized that suggest his nationality.

Previous reports indicated that the suspect had been using multiple aliases, including Vijay Das and Bijoy Das. The main suspect was intercepted in the early hours of Sunday in Thane West, Maharashtra.

Actor Saif Ali Khan was reportedly assaulted multiple times in his upscale apartment located in Mumbai’s Bandra area during a burglary attempt in the early hours of Thursday.

The actor resides on the 12th floor of the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building. At the time of the incident, Saif Ali Khan was at home with his wife, fellow actor Kareena Kapoor, and their two children, four-year-old Jeh and eight-year-old Taimur.

Rahul Gandhi says Nitish Kumar government’s caste survey was to fool Bihar

“The objective of the caste census should not only be to count various castes but also to understand their contributions to the nation’s wealth. We do not want a caste survey like the one carried out by the Bihar government, which merely aimed to mislead the people,” said Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, on Saturday, accused the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar of conducting a caste survey that he described as an attempt to deceive the public.

Speaking at a ‘Samvidhan Suraksha Sammelan’ in Patna, he emphasized the necessity of a nationwide caste census to ascertain the level of representation and participation of OBCs, Dalits, and workers in bureaucratic and other sectors.

“The objective of the caste census should not only be to count various castes but also to understand their contributions to the nation’s wealth. We do not want a caste survey like the one carried out by the Bihar government, which merely aimed to mislead the people,” said Gandhi.

He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that its MPs from backward communities feel restricted and confined. “Where is it stated in the Constitution of India that the wealth of India should belong solely to a select few? Today’s MLAs and MPs lack real power,” Gandhi remarked. He recounted his conversations with BJP MPs from backward communities and said they express a sense of being “put in a cage.”

Gandhi pointed out that while Dalits and individuals from backward communities have been granted representation, their power has been diminished. “Once it became evident that people from the backward communities and Dalits were gaining representation, the government conferred it but stripped away their power. The real power now lies with Ambani, Adani, and the RSS, who place their affiliates in every organization,” he asserted.

Additionally, the Leader of the Opposition took aim at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who suggested that the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya represented India’s “true independence.” Gandhi criticized Bhagwat’s statement, saying, “Recently, Mohan Bhagwat claimed that India did not achieve independence on August 15, 1947. If he is suggesting this, then he is rejecting the Constitution of India.”

He further stated, “Bhagwat is actively erasing the ideologies of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Lord Buddha, and Mahatma Gandhi from various institutions across India.”

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday claimed that its convenor and former Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, was attacked while he was campaigning for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

To substantiate this allegation, AAP released a video. The party accused the BJP and its candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Parvesh Verma, of orchestrating the attack out of fear of defeat in the elections.

“The goons of BJP candidate Pravesh Verma attacked Arvind Kejriwal with bricks and stones during his campaign, attempting to harm him and disrupt his efforts. BJP, Kejriwal ji will not be intimidated by your cowardly actions; the people of Delhi will respond appropriately,” stated the party.

Shortly after AAP’s accusations, Parvesh Verma shared a video alleging that Kejriwal’s convoy ran over two individuals during the campaign in New Delhi.

“While answering questions, Arvind Kejriwal hit two young men with his car. Both were taken to Lady Harding Hospital. In the face of impending defeat, he neglected the value of people’s lives. I am heading to the hospital,” the BJP leader said.

After arriving at the hospital, Parvesh Verma addressed reporters, stating, “They are injured and receiving treatment. All allegations made by Arvind Kejriwal are unfounded… The three individuals injured are residents of this assembly constituency, and they were struck by Arvind Kejriwal’s vehicle. He is simply afraid of losing…”

In a video released by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), several individuals can be seen waving black flags near Kejriwal’s convoy.

Parvesh Verma is competing against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Sandeep Dikshit from Congress in the New Delhi assembly constituency. Both candidates have submitted their nominations and expressed confidence in their respective parties’ chances of winning.
