Many people are unaware that RRR’s Golden Globe-winning song Naatu Naatu has a specific Ukrainian link.
Yes, you read that correctly.
‘Naatu Naatu’ was shot in Ukraine in August 2021, outside Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official home. The video was shot a few months before Russia invaded Ukraine.
During the March 2022 advertising of ‘RRR,’ the film’s director SS Rajamouli recalled shooting for the song in Ukraine and felt regret about the Russian-Ukraine war.
Rajamouli was heard saying that his team had gone there to shoot some crucial scenes and when they were shooting, they had no idea about the issues that now have escalated into a war. He also said that it was only after he returned, looked at things and understood the seriousness of the issue.
Meanwhile, Zelensky appeared virtually at the Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday night to tell everyone that there will be no third World War as the tide shifts in Ukraine’s battle with Russia, according to the Hill. Zelensky emphasised the award show’s origins in 1943, during World Conflict II, and said Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion represents the struggle for the right of new generations to learn about the war only via cinema.
Millions of people were killed in the First World War. Tens of millions were killed in the Second World War. A third World War will not occur. This is not a trilogy, Zelensky added, assuring that Ukraine would put an end to Russian aggression with the assistance of the free world.

The war in Ukraine is not yet done, but the tide is turning and it is evident who will prevail, he said, adding that Ukraine shall succeed together with the entire free globe, and hopes that all of the world will be with them on the day of their victory.
Sean Penn, widely renowned for his Academy Award-winning performances in 2003’s “Mystic River” and 2008’s Milk, introduced Zelenskyy at the event.
Zelenskyy’s appearance at the Golden Globes comes only one week after the White House promised to give USD 3.75 billion in military aid to Ukraine and neighbouring NATO countries, the largest support package from the US to date amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Zelensky made a surprise appearance at the Grammys last year, essentially from a bunker, and he continues to speak at public events in support of his country’s struggle against Russia.
