Trump shared classified info with Russian Foreign Minister, says report

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]US President Donald Trump is said to have shared highly sensitive and classified information about the Islamic State with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last week.
Washington Post reported on Monday: “President Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.”
Citing an unnamed official, Washington Post said the information Trump relayed had been provided by a US partner, who had access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. The partner had not given Washington permission to share the information with Moscow and Trump’s decision can endanger cooperation from the ally.
“The information was so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the US government,” the officials said to the Post.
White House officials rebuffed the report claiming it as false and said that the President didn’t discuss intelligence sources or methods of collection.
“The President and the foreign minister reviewed common threats from terrorist organisations to include threats to aviation. At no time were any intelligence sources or methods discussed, and no military operations were disclosed that were not already known publicly.” The Post quoted HR McMaster, the National Security Adviser, who participated in the meeting.
Dina Powell, deputy national security adviser for strategy, called the reports false, saying, “The president only discussed the common threats that both countries faced.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

After US, UK bans TikTok on government devices with immediate effect
Last month, the US government directed the federal agencies to delete TikTok from all government-issued mobile phones.

Days after the US banned the China-owned video-sharing app TikTok from government mobile phones, the UK on Thursday, took a similar move on security grounds.
On Thursday, Cabinet Office Minister Oliver Dowden told Parliament that the ban will apply with immediate effect to work phones and other devices used by government ministers and civil services.
He tagged the ban as a precautionary move and also clarified that it does not apply to personal phones and devices.
Dowdwen also informed that the experts conducted a risk assessment of third-party applications in relation to sensitive government data. He said government devices may contain sensitive information which is both prudent and proportionate to restrict the use of certain applications, particularly when it comes to apps where a large amount of data can be stored and accessed.
Last month, the US government directed the federal agencies to delete TikTok from all government-issued mobile phones. The US officials said if TikTok parts ways with ByteDance it would avoid a wider national ban.
Earlier, the European Union, Belgium, and others banned the Chinese app temporarly from employee phones. The decisions were coerced amid the concerns that ByteDance, which is TikTok’s parent company, would leake user data such as location and browsing history to the Chinese government.
Meanwhile, China urged the US to stop unreasonably suppressing TikTok after Washington gave the app ultimatum to part ways with its Chinese owners.
