Karwa Chauth significance
Karwa Chauth is a celebration celebrated by Hindu women of Northern and Western India on the fourth day after Purnima (a full moon) in the period of Kartika.
The festival depends on the lunisolar schedule which represents every single cosmic position, particularly places of the moon which is used as a marker to work out significant dates. The celebration falls on the fourth day after the full moon.
On Karwa Chauth, married women, particularly in North India, observe fast from dawn to moonrise for the wellbeing and life span of their husbands. The Karwa Chauth fast is predominantly celebrated in the states like Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and, Madhya Pradesh. It is observed as Atla Tadde in Andhra Pradesh.
Karwa Chauth rituals
• Women start prepping for Karwa Chauth seven days before. Married women get up right on time before dawn, to plan Sargi which is an assortment of desserts, snacks, and ornamental things that ladies get from seniors before dawn.
• Married women who fast need to stay away from food and water till the moonrise and chant mantras. Pregnant women can have desserts, natural products, or other milk things.
• Unmarried women can also observe the fast for their future husbands.
