Datia mishap: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh compensation, wedding festivities turned into mourning

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a compensation worth Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the 5 lives lost at the shocking accident that took place in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia in the wee hours of Wednesday.

PM Modi also announced Rs 50,000 compensation for those injured.

The accident that took place in Datia turned wedding festivities into mourning, an accident shocked by which 3000 houses of the Bilheti village in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior did not burn stove today.

At around 3 am on Wednesday, when the Shejwar family was on its way towards Tikamgarh from Bilheti for the wedding of their daughter Pooja, a mini truck carrying almost 25  members of the family fell into the river leading to the death of 5 including 3 children.

The bride’s grandmother Pancho Bai, 60, her cousin brother Prashant Kishor and nephews Ishu, 5, 3-year-old Kerav and another 5-year-old relative Gunjan lost their lives. The other people in the vehicle were injured and were rushed to the nearby hospital and are underway treatment.

The vehicle was on a temporarily built bridge, which was built as a diversion of the under construction bridge at the river bank.

SDPO Karnik Srivastav told to the media that the mini truck lost its balance when was passing through the makeshift bridge and overturned as the water level was high.

The police as soon as was informed reached the spot and carried out the rescue operation, which was difficult as the water stream was strong due to rain. Also, after the villagers received the information of the accident to have happened, more than 100 villagers also rushed to the site of accident to help out in the rescue operations.

The tableau’s design masterfully captured the essence of Lakkundi’s rich heritage. The forefront showcased the majestic Brahma statue from the Brahma Jinalaya temple, the oldest Jain shrine in the city, dedicated to Lord Mahaveera. Its intricate details and imposing presence immediately drew the viewer’s attention, setting the tone for the tableau’s narrative.
