Facebook bans Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh from platform

Under fire for not cracking down on hate speech by BJP leaders on its network, Facebook on Thursday banned Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh from its platform. A spokesperson said he had violated Facebook’s policies against promoting or engaging in violence and hate.

Under fire for not cracking down on hate speech by BJP leaders on its network, Facebook on Thursday banned Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh from its platform. A spokesperson said he had violated Facebook’s policies against promoting or engaging in violence and hate. The social media major also claimed the ban was in step with its extensive process to evaluate potential violators. Facebook has been under immense pressure for not handling such content. Recently, the Wall Street Journal had done an expose based on inputs from anonymous insiders who claimed Facebook India executive Ankhi Das had intervened internally to evade a permanent ban on Raja Singh, citing damage to its business prospects in India. Das had filed cases against some social media users for harassing her after the WSJ report came to light.

Singh, the MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad Old City, had put out a video disowning any such content under his name on Facebook. He claimed his officialFB account had been hacked and then blocked in 2018.  Singh insisted he had just a YouTube and aTwitter account. He distanced himself from pages on Facebook operating under his name and said they were not his responsibility.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who heads the standing committee on information technology, had summoned Facebook India officials to answer the claims made inthe WSJ article. They deposed yesterday and answered questions relating to political bias. Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had written to Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg dismissing the WSJ claims as a battle of ideologies within the organisation.
The Congress and its former president Rahul Gandhi had demanded investigation into the claims against Facebook and the party had called for a joint parliamentary probe into it.The WSJ had also carried another report on Das’s support for the BJP and her disparaging of the Congress party. Facebook had denied any bias on Das’s part.

Honour killing: Maharashtra woman strangled to death, body torched by family over love affair

A young woman was reportedly murdered by her own family, who then burned her body to a crisp in a bid to destroy evidence in Nanded district of Maharashtra.

Reports said the 22-year-old victim, who has not been named, was strangled to death with a rope by her own brother and father along with three other male relatives on January 22 in in Pimpri Mahipal village under Limbgaon police station.

Police officials said the accused then torched her corpse and dumped the remains in a stream to destroy any evidence.

The victim, a third-year medical student of Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery, was engaged to be married by a man of her family’s choosing. However, she was in love with another man from her village and informed of the same to her betrothed, who then called off the wedding.

The irate family members who were upset after the wedding was called off, took her to a farm on the night of January 22, where they murdered her and torched her body to destroy evidence, police said.

The five accused which includes the victim’s father, brother, uncle and cousins have been arrested under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

In a similar incident, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Hussainganj was arrested for allegedly murdering his 3-year-old boy and then burying the body in a nearby farm.

Police said the accused, identified as Chandra Kishore Lodhi, a resident of Chitisapur village under Hussainganj police station, killed his son with a spade after an argument with his wife.

Lodhi, the police said, had an argument with his wife Wednesday night and then in a fit of rage, attacked his toddler son, Raj, with a spade, instantly killing him. The accused then took the child’s body and buried it in a nearby farm during the night.

Lodhi’s wife informed the local police of the crime on Thursday, a police team recovered the toddler’s body and arrested the accused.

Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra called off over security lapse in Kashmir, Congress alleges sudden withdrawal of security

Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra was called off owing to lapse in security while the Yatra was enroute to Kashmir Valley on Friday. The Congress has alleged that the security forces suddenly withdrew upon learning about the crowd waiting on the route.

It reported that Rahul Gandhi had begun his Bharat Jodo Yatra as per the schedule and was anticipated to cover 11 km in the Kashmir Valley, however, after the security forces inconsistencies, the Wayanad MP had to halt the Yatra after a kilometre.

It was reported when the former Congress president led the Yatra into the Kilometre, a large crowd was waiting for them and the security forces suddenly pulled back. The Congress party has also alleged the Jammu and Kashmir administration of mismanagement to keep the crowd in check during the Yatra.

The incident took place near Banihal Tunnel enroute to Srinagar and after learning about the situation of the crowd, Rahul Gandhi had to wait for 30 minutes before a security vehicle could escort the Congress MP out of the heavily thronged place.

After the escort of Rahul Gandhi, the Yatra was cancelled for the day. Rahul Gandhi was joined by former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah while on his way to the valley.

Congress Leader KC Venugopal, while talking about the incident to the media, alleged that the police forces pulled back after the Yatra crossed Banihal Tunnel. He also said that there was a lack of police force to secure Rahul Gandhi and Omar Abdullah while the situation ensued.

Venugopal also said that Rahul Gandhi was walking without security and added that the Congress Party is very troubled by the security aspect for Rahul Gandhi and the Yatra.

Bharat Jodo Yatra was supposed to enter the Kashmir Valley on Friday before finishing off the Yatra in Srinagar’s Congress Party’s office where Rahul Gandhi was to hoist the national flag.

Rajasthan: Men steal 2 ATMs with Rs 38 lakh cash in Ajmer, video viral | WATCH

A video of two unidentified men uprooting and looting an ATM machine in Rajasthan’s Ajmer is being surfaced on social media. The robbery took place in the Roopangarh district of Ajmer on January 26 at around 1:30 am.

According to the reports, the two masked men reached the ATM machine of the Bank of Baroda located in the Sursura area of Roopangarh police station. The robbers then uprooted the ATM machine and stole Rs 8 lakhs from it.

The police are currently investigating the matter and are looking at the CCTV footage to identify and capture the accused.

Two days ago, a similar incident took place in Ajmer’s Arain district, where the masked men uprooted and looted the State Bank of India’s ATM machine full of Rs 30 lakh in cash located at the Power House intersection. Vaibhav Sharma, Additional SP, Rural, said the robbery method in both cases was identical, so it could be the same gang.

Both incidents took place during the night. However, no one has been arrested in connection with both cases of loot so far. The police have launched an operation to identify and nab the culprits.

Earlier this month, a similar incident happened in Odisha’s Nilagiri where 5 to 6 masked men looted over Rs 3.5 lakh from an ATM and customer service point of State Bank of India (SBI) in Balasore district at around 1 pm.

The incident happened when the SBI kiosk owner was loading the cash into the ATM when robbers entered by lifting the shutter. He said later, they held him hostage, beat him, and looted the cash by breaking into the ATM. Then the miscreants came inside the counter and took away the cash, he added.
